And just like the Spring
You left me watering, weeping
Cicadas buzzing in my ear
Coughing to clear the air
To find a second of calm
Before looking up, and seeing a cloud
That looked like a dragon
Drift slowly away in silence

And just like Autumn
You left me at peace, tranquil
Listening the the wind rustle the leaves
Dropping dead one by one
Crunching beneath every step I take forward
Down an unmarked path I know will lead me
To the person I am meant to be, alone
And okay
And just like the Winter
You left me shaking, quaking
Bundled up and hidden away
Beneath layer and layer
Of doubt and fatigue
Wondering when the snow will melt.
Shiver in the cold
But I shudder at your thought.

And just like Summer
You left me panting, sweating
Chugging the gatorade on the nightstand
Free of layer upon layer
Of self ridicule and turmoil
Skinny dipping in a pool of you
Drowning in lust
But knowing I’ll be gasping for love soon enough
