Book 12

You forgot to hang up the phone one night

I still heard you

Breathing. Muttering. Shifting.

I felt like I was eavesdropping

Spying. Listening for something

Some kind of secret hidden behind a locked screen

But instead

All i got was your Voice

Humming like a siren

Like I held a seashell up to my ear and heard the infinite ocean

And I couldn’t tell if it was a salty wave splashed up onto my cheek

Or a tear
