Chasm

I cadged the cavern for a comeback

Spelunking for soulful solutions of self.

How did it stay strong,

Sturdy yet so empty inside?

How could it survive,

Filled with an endless darkness?

How did it feel,

To be a place beats and monsters call home?

I needed the cave to answer.

To tell me these things were natural.

But instead,

It just grinned its stalagmite teeth

And smacked its stalactite lips,

Laughing back my echoes of ache.
