Could A Monster Do This?
I thought myself a devil
A creature abhorred
For the horrors I endured
I thought myself a freak
A fool who fell so far from fascincation
That I was deemed too daunting
To dwell anywhere else
But despair
I thought myself a monster
And yet,
Your smile bore no fangs,
Your hands clasped mine instead of themselves,
Your voice spoke softly,
Sending shivers through the parts of me
That still had feeling.
You held me when I wept,
Kissed me when I sighed
And while the rest of the world taught me to hate
And fear
And hide
You showed me how to love.
So when I thought to myself,
“Could a monster do this?”
You answered
“Of course we can.”
