Hibernal

I begged the wind to let her stay

To keep her in the light a bit longer. To hear her laugh not fade into an echo.

To keep the warmth of her glow on my face all hours of the day.

I prayed she’d be my Solstice.

And as she laid before me still,

Sleeping in her grace and illumination,

I knew I got my wish.

But as the darkest month began to end, as I shivered alone in the moonlight

I knew I had been tricked by the wind
