I Sat Beside A Dying Deer
I sat beside a dying deer
Whose breaths were weak
And heartbeat slowed
For no creature should be alone
In their time of need.
It could not speak
But it’s eyes were begging
It could not run
But it’s mind was racing
For it’s life had been cut short
In an instant
By a car long gone,
Driven by a man
Too inhuman to have considered
Stopping
And I learned in that moment
That helplessness
Is not a sigularity
For those in despair
Can bleed
Into those
Who care
So as I sat beside a dying deer
I couldn’t shake the feeling
That this is what my loved ones felt
When they sat with me
In my darker days
For no creature should be alone
In their time of need
