Objet d'art

You broke my heart.
But I broke yours too.

And I can’t help but wonder if somewhere down the line during clean up, we got some of our pieces mixed together.

Because now I’m seeing the things in me that you despised.

I’m noticing the hints you gave long before you brought them up.

I now understand what you meant about time.

But these new pieces fit so well with me, as if they were meant to be here all along.

So no, I’m not meant for you. Never was.

And I really don’t need you quite as badly as I thought I did.

But what I did need was for your heart to shatter mine.

To hodgepodge our fragments into something new

A stained-glass window image of Myself.

So that we may learn to accept what was hated

So that we may learn to cherish what was ignored

So that we may learn to love ourselves, despite those parts telling us we’re unloveable
