Passages from a Sea Captain’s Log
It’s tempting to jump into the waves
For fast relief from looking for land.
Submerging in painted agony
Surrounding myself in sunken dreams
Of those who came and those who will come
Searching for the treasure that I lost.
I need no map to tell me I'm lost
At the mercy of deceptive waves.
On a quest like this, mirages come
Easily to show counterfeit land.
But Sirens will not silence my dreams,
And I will push through the agony.
An albatross ends my agony
And leads me to the land I had lost.
An island I saw only in dreams.
Letting my ship be pulled by the waves,
I don't care if I crash into land.
Those looking for me will never come.
I dared Poseidon to let rain come
Down and quench my thirsty agony.
As happy as I am to find land,
With no map or compass I am lost.
I still walk weakly from weeks on waves,
But it feels effortless like in dreams.
There are more nightmares here than dreams.
The sounds of creatures in the caves come
Between echoed crashes from the waves.
Sleepless nights are added agony
To the fear someone found what was lost.
That it has already left this land.
The deeper I dig into the land,
The more I wake up from foolish dreams.
The only thing here that was ever lost
Is a future beyond today. Come!
Bring forth this mariners agony.
Let my screams be muffled by the waves.
Bury my dreams in the land with me,
But don't cross the waves. Let me stay lost.
Leave this agony locked in my chest.
