Pleasantries

You use to look at me with such longing in your eyes

Now that’s harder to make out as you’re rolling them

You use to speak so softly, like honey dripping from the comb

Now you words feel like the bees defending it

You use to smile bright like the moon

Now the smirks are eclipsed in closed lips and muffled sighs

You use to tell me I was the only one

Now I know I’m just another

Just because life gets hard

Doesn’t mean people have to
