Say Cheese
She hated how she smiled.
So she hid her grin behind her lips.
Holding in her laughter.
Holding back her joy.
Concentrating and quivering
While keeping her mouth shut
And her guard up
As to not slip and reveal
Her undesired dentition.
So the first time I said “I love you”,
I didn’t know where to look.
Into her eyes,
Or at teeth
That told me all I needed to know.
