Sweep Over Thee in Vain

When we were together, I asked you if we could go to the zoo

I really wanted to see the seals playing in the water

But you said no. Zoos made you sad

You hated the idea that the animals were enclosed, almost neglected

Being observed from a distance but never getting to truly interact with those interested in seeing them.

Being playful, but ignorant to their current situation

Secluded.

It wasn’t until after you had gone,

Where I spent my days wondering what you were up to, just wanting to talk to you

Piecing together the clues of your day through messages left on read

I truly felt cut off

Observed from a distance

Ignorant to my current situation

A broken beast behind bolted bars
