Point Pleasant

I wrote all my sins in the sand

And watched as the waves washed over them

But that didn’t make them go away

It’s not that easy

Instead

I watched as the waves read over my list

Not caring what I wrote

Not caring what I did

And they returned again and again

Like a loyal friend

And as I cried all night on the shore line,

The waves came back to check in on me periodically.

I can’t change what I did

Much like the ocean can’t change what it is

But like the tide

I can shift my focus

To stop crying in the sand

And smile at the sunrise
