The Dragonfly

You thought you were too fragile to hold the weight of your own name.
You whispered kindness to others
But never said it loud enough to hear it yourself.

Hovering just above the water's surface,
You moved with grace
But doubted your strength

For no one ever tells you how long it takes
To believe the reflection
In the water beneath you

The one with tired eyes,
A soft heart,
And wings that shimmer even in the shadows.

Dragonflies aren't born in the sky

They rise like the rest of us,
Climb from the water,
Shed what no longer serves them,
And take flight

So let your pain become the pond
That you leave behind

For you are beautiful,
Bold,
And finally,
Your own
