I Wish I Were a Redwood

Like lightning to a tree, your words struck
Burning through my trunk to the core.
But I allow the embers to smolder
To squelch the doubt
Incinerate the fear
Burn away all the promises you made
And lies that you kept
Because from the ash of what I was
Will grow a stronger Pine
