Silent Nights

I have muted memories
Of dancing with you in the snow
Looking like an angel
And although I can’t recall your voice
Or your laugh
Or the way you coughed when you inhaled cold air too fast
I know that you said you loved me.

But my tongue was frozen
My voice cracked like the ice just before falling under
And my heart was coated in permafrost
Leaving me unable to speak
Only responding with a Silent Night.
